women's rugby video online

When I was in San Francisco in February I squeezed in a little project with my friend Amanda Micheli. She had made a short fundraising video promoting women's rugby, as the US team prepares for the World Cup in 2010. Women's rugby will be included in the 2016 Olympics, so they are trying to build excitement and support for the team. You can watch the video online here. I did a (somewhat rushed!) sound edit and mix in Soundtrack Pro - with headphones on my laptop.

LIMBO LOUNGE

So, Limbo Lounge screened on Friday at The Roxie in San Francisco! It was great to be back in town and hang out with everybody who came out to see it debut! Good times. Screenings are always interesting for me, cos you've seen the movie god knows how many times while you're working on it, and you get so used to it. Then there you are in a room full of people and they react so differently cos its their first time seeing it. Anyway it went really well, Tom and co went up afterwards for a Q&A and that was well done and pretty entertaining. The sound system was OK, the mix held up well and I was pretty pleased overall, and feel good that it's finally out in the world. I started working on it WAY before we had picture lock, so plenty of time has passed between then and now. Over 2 years. So, it's kind of a big deal! If you are in town on Wednesday the 5th it is screening again at 9:30 at The Roxie as part of the SF Independent Film Fest. If you miss that there will be one last one on Thursday Feb 18th at 7:15pm. Woo! :D

a toast to friends' success

Just read a nice review of a movie some friends of mine have made: Mitch Altieri and Phil Flores aka "The Butcher Brothers". I met them in San Francisco about 10 years ago and worked on their first feature "Long Cut", and then later again on Mitch's film "Lurking in Suburbia".
Anyway, their new film "The Violent Kind" made it into Sundance this year - no easy feat! - and a couple of midnight screenings later - there's quite a buzz going on. Congrats Filmitch!

Just had a bit of a blast from the past! Someone has posted an edit of a film I was a Boom Op on for just 2 days in the summer of 95! 'Happy M'Gee', starring Jude Law and Ewan McGregor - before they got to be famous. I always wondered what happened to this. Honestly, it's pretty terrible! And it's not been finished - it needs a lot of sound work! And probably a complete re-edit. lol.

But it reminds me of when I was just getting started. The sound mixer was grumpy old school and made me kinda stressed, I recall. To this day I'm much happier doing post production than location sound.

For the curious, the bit I worked on is at the beginning of part 3, where the girl is counting out loud and dancing on the car.

One last post for today - Double Dare is a very cool documentary I worked on a few years ago. I was officially the dialogue editor on this project. It follows two stunt women, Zoe Bell and Jeanie Epper, as they navigate their careers. Inspiring and fun! Directed by the talented and wonderful Amanda Micheli!

La Corona - Oscar Nominated Doc Short - HBO

So, seeing as I haven't quite managed to edit a new reel together yet, I thought I would scour the web for some more trailers (they are nice and short!) of films I've worked on. This one is a documentary for HBO I did audio post for in 2008; it was nominated for an Oscar for best documentary, short. I did all the sound editing and pre-mix, then we went up to Skywalker for the final mix. Really fun working on this, I have fond memories of late nights - weird, I know! If you get a chance to see it don't miss out. "La Corona".
